I want to take a brief moment to honor the memory of a man and his dream on this day which would have been his 85th birthday.
Sometimes we get so caught up in the view of where we are that we forget where we came from, or rather how far we have come. Of course the journey I refer to is not my own, but it is by virtue of my race and my nationality, a part of me.
Although the society I live in still has a long way to go before I would consider it cured of that which ailed in Dr. King's time, we have come so far. I don't need to bring you through a run of history for you to understand, so I will just say that for his influence, his belief, and all that he put on the line for his dream for our equality and someday, unity. I am thankful for and celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King.
